Kitchen Renovation Days #14 to #30, I Think

A few weeks ago my Mom fell and broke her ribs.  After some complications, she ended up in the ICU, where I’m sitting next to her as I write this.  As soon as it seemed reasonable, the kids and I packed up and headed to my hometown (yay for homeschooling freedom!), where our kitchen renovation has been all but forgotten. In fact, in the fog of navigating my Mom’s healthcare with my 4 siblings, I seem to be forgetting everything else.  I’m not even sure what day it is.

Luckily, Joe remembers.  He is home working by day and finishing the kitchen at night.  Our calls are filled with the staccato of serious medical updates broken up by his funny stories of chasing down our floor stain, which has been discontinued, and his vendetta against our local grocery store, which is closed every night by the time he gets home from work.

Here are few shots from the past few weeks.

My first trip driving the Northeast Corridor by myself – – 7 hours, door to door. Not one stop and not one complaint. These kids are angel feathers from heaven.

The first cabinet goes up!

The first cabinet goes up! You can’t tell from the photo but the walls are also freshly painted.

There are some long days in the ICU.

There are some long days inside the ICU.

And long days outside.

Also, two of the kids got strep while we were away. Here's JohnJohn, as Darth Vader.

A whole wall of cabinets! And appliance on their way...

A whole wall of cabinets! And appliances too.

Molly, visiting Grandmom, and entertaining her with magic tricks, which actually worked. We were all pretty surprised by that.
