Daily Prompt: We (Homeschoolers) Can be Taught!

Today’s WordPress Daily Prompt caught my eye and reminded me to share this special photo with you.

Here’s the Prompt: Tell us a moment or an incident that you treasure  — not necessarily because it brought you happiness, but because it taught you something about yourself.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us LEARNING.

Here’s a photo I took one morning about a month ago that I will always treasure.  In it you can see Molly holding both an apple and a lollipop.  But she is eating the apple.

It reminds this control freak of one of the lessons that I have learned repeatedly this first year of homeschooling:  our children deserve our trust and an opportunity to make their own choices.  If we give them access to good information (like the nutritional content of an apple as well that of a lollipop) they will make good choices, like eating the apple before the lollipop.

That being said, it is also going to be OK if they don’t.
